So, how do you know if you are a candidate for breast augmentation?
- Has weight loss or pregnancy changed the size or shape of your breasts?
- Do your breasts appear “deflated” following breast-feeding or massive weight loss?
- Are you bothered that your breasts appear too small?
- Do you feel self-conscious wearing swimsuits or form-fitting tops?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may be a candidate for breast enlargement surgery.
To better simplify the philosophy of breast augmentation, there are three basic candidates requesting breast augmentation surgery: First, is the young candidate in her 20’s to 30’s with small breasts (A or small B-cup) who just need added volume. Their most commonly requested size is a “36 full C-cup”. These candidates are extremely happy following breast enlargement and experience a wonderful transformation that improves their self-confidence and total body image. Second, is the candidate in her 30’s to 40’s who has experienced involution of her breasts following pregnancy and breast-feeding. As a consequence, her breasts now appear flat, flabby, and deflated. Sometimes, these candidates may also need a breast lift or mastopexy to reposition or center the areola over the implant. Lastly, is the candidate who already has breast implants but is now requesting cosmetic breast revision due to asymmetry, unevenness, hardening or rippling. These candidates also commonly request implant exchange from saline to silicone gel.

During your consultation you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations, as your reasons to choose breast augmentation or breast revision surgery are unique and personal. Decisions about the type of breast implant—being either saline breast implants or silicone gel filled implants, placement of the breast implant above or below the muscle, and the location of the incision will all be thoroughly assessed and discussed based upon your specific anatomy and body shape.
You have two choices of breast augmentation with either saline or silicone implants. Breast augmentation with saline implants are intended for females who are at least 18 years old. However, women who choose breast augmentation with silicone implants must be at least 22 years old. Our silicone gel-filled implants feature a unique cohesive gel that holds together uniformly while resembling the natural look and feel of breast tissue.
SILICONE GEL IMPANTS -- GAINING MORE POPULARITY!
For many women, the thought of “silicone” material for breast implants uncomfortably evokes a terrifying history. After meticulous scientific research, debate, and investigational FDA panels, no relationship between silicone breast implants and autoimmune diseases or cancer was found. Therefore, on November 11, 2007, the FDA approved Allergan and Mentor to resume sale of silicone breast implants for cosmetic and reconstructive use in the United States. Today’s new generation of silicone implants are far more superior and safe. Since this information was released in 2007, the public’s confidence in silicone breast augmentation surgery has been restored. At present, primary breast augmentation remains the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedure. Today, more cosmetic breast surgeons are recommending silicone gel implants over saline implants. Most surgeons, including Dr. Michael Thornton, feel silicone implants have a more natural look and feel and women are more satisfied with their appearance. Because of its rebirth in 2007, many women are now beginning to show a newfound confidence and happiness in receiving silicone implants. Silicone breast implants will remaina leading cosmetic surgery trend for 2009 and beyond.
