Lipotherme FAQ'S

Lipotherme Laser Lipo at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center

Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center is proud to offer the latest and newest generation in laser liposuction, Lipotherme™, an FDA-approved, minimally-invasive procedure that uses patented and state-of-the-art laser assisted liposuction technology to remove unwanted fat from targeted body zones. In addition to removing fat, Lipotherme™ promotes skin tightening due to its local thermal effects on the underlying dermis, resulting in firmer and smoother skin.

Lipotherme laser liposuctionLipotherme™ laser lipolysis is considered an alternative to traditional liposuction for patients looking to remove stubborn areas of fat from targeted body zones. Requiring only a local anesthetic, Lipotherme™ laser liposuction is performed as an in-office procedure here at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center. Because it is minimally-invasive, there is less bruising, less trauma, and less swelling as compared with traditional suction assisted liposuction.

"In addition to removing unwanted fat, Lipotherme's thermal effect causes the skin to tighten, resulting in firmer, smoother skin in the treated area..."

Lipotherme laser liposuction Arlington Tx, Fort Worth Tx, Dallas Tx."Lipo" refers to fat, and "therme" refers to heat, so Lipotherme™ is the controlled application of laser-induced heat to the fat cells. Lipotherme™ is the direct result of French and European research who developed one of the most ideal methods for targeting unwanted fat “zones” and permanently eliminating them from your body.

"...less trauma with Lipotherme means you experience less bruising, less swelling, less pain, and less bleeding."

This type of minimally-invasive surgical procedure, know as laser assisted liposuction or "laser lipo" is considered an evolution in liposuction techniques. Most patients resume normal daily activities soon after their procedure; however, it is generally recommended waiting several days prior to resuming strenuous activity such as exercising or physical labor.

During your Lipotherme™ session at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center, you will first be administered a mild oral sedative and an oral pain medication. Next, a local numbing agent (tumescent anesthesia) containing lidocaine and epinephrine is gently infiltrated into your targeted body zones. Then a small cannula is inserted under your skin where the laser is activated. As the laser heats the fat, it creates a thermal effect and since fat cells are destroyed by thermal energy, they are permanently liquefied. Finally, the liquefied fat is aspirated (suctioned) away.

Dr. Michael Thornton will evaluate your targeted areas to make sure you are a proper candidate for laser-assisted liposuction. For instance, if the targeted fat zones are too large or complex, then more traditional (suction-assisted) liposuction approaches will be utilized and it will be necessary to perform your liposuction surgery at a surgery center under general anesthesia for safety concerns.

Lipotherme Features

• Feature: Lipotherme™ is a revolutionary next generation laser-assisted lipolysis device. Its continuous 25 watts of power at 980 nm wavelength has the capacity to deliver the most efficacious result of any laser assisted lipolysis device currently on the market.
• Patient Benefit: Allows the surgeon to perform a faster and more efficient procedure so you may resume normal activities earlier.

• Feature: Lipotherme™ uses a 980 nm laser diode with a continuous wavelength-laser as compared with other laser lipolysis technologies that use pulsed wavelength-laser technology.
• Patient Benefit: Allows for improved discomfort with minimal bruising and minimal recuperation. A continuous wavelengh laser also allows the thermal end point to be reached sooner.

• Feature: Lipotherme™ laser liposuction procedure utilizes local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia.
• Patient Benefit: Although you will remain lightly sedated after taking an oral anti-anxiety type medication, the procedure allows you to remain conscious and awake during the entire procedure.

• Feature: Lipotherme™ uses a small laser cannula diameter (only 2.0 mm).
• Patient Benefit: Allows the procedure to remain as minimally-invasive as possible as compared to traditional suction liposuction that typically uses a larger cannula and causes local tissue trauma. Less tissue trauma with Lipotherme™ means you experience less bruising, less swelling, less pain, and less bleeding as compared to traditional liposuction techniques.

Lipotherme™ Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

  • Question: How does Lipotherme™ work?
Answer: A small cannula approximately 2.0 mm in diameter containing a laser fiber is inserted through your skin in the targeted fat zone. The cannula delivers the laser's heat energy to the fat cells causing them to rupture. Local anesthesia is used at the entry point and tumescent anesthesia is infiltrated under your skin to anesthetize the nerves in the soft tissue and fat layer.
  • Question: What areas can be treated with Lipotherme™ laser lipolysis?
Answer: Submental region (chin and upper neck), chest, abdomen and obliques (love-handles), flank (sides), back, bra-areas, upper arms, inner thighs, outer thighs and hips, and knees. Dr. Michael Thornton is also using the laser technology to perform minimally invasive face lift and neck lift procedures.
  • Question: How soon will I see results and how long will my results last?
Answer: Because healing is different for each individual, results following a Lipotherme™ laser lipo treatment typically requires 12 to 16 weeks to become fully apparent, although you may experience your optimal result in approximately 6 months. However, most patients see dramatic improvements within 1 to 2 weeks after the Lipotherme™ laser lipolysis treatment. Results are long-lasting and repeat treatments are not necessary.
  • Question: Is this a “one-time” treatment?
Answer: Yes, Lipotherme™ laser liposuction is performed during a "one-time" visit.
  • Question: Are there any reasons I may not be considered an acceptable candidate for Lipotherme™ laser lipolysis?
Answer: Upon arrival at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center, your calculated Body Mass Index (BMI), medical and surgical history, smoking history, allergies, and medications will be carfully reviewed by Dr. Michael Thornton to ensure that you do not have any underlying medical problems that need to be corrected by your primary care physician. Your safety is paramount so delaying your treatment until your medical condition is corrected or adjusted will be necessary. Furthermore, Lipotherme™ laser lipolysis is not intended for patients seeking dramatic body reshaping as Lipotherme™ is not effective for treating morbid obesity.
  • Question: Is Lipotherme™ laser lipolysis FDA approved?
Answer: Yes! Lipotherme™ has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States.
