Dr. Thornton at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center safely provides Lipo 360 Ultrasound Guided SAFE Brazilian Butt Lift – BBL procedure where he performs Ultrasound Guided Brazilian Butt Lift on clients from across Texas and the DFW Metroplex, including: Mansfield, Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas, Kennedale, Grand Prairie, Burleson, Corsicana, Ennis, Midlothian, Red Oak, Waxahachie, Duncanville, DeSoto, Frisco, and Plano.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift surgery?

A Brazilian Butt Lift procedure requires three separate steps: 1) Your own fat is harvested using MicroAire Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) from your abdomen, flanks and back leaving you with a narrowed waistline 2) the harvested live fat cells are filtered and processed to remove excess fluid and debris 3) the harvested fat cells are finally transferred to your buttocks using real-time ultrasound guided techniques, thus providing more buttock projection and fullness.

Using ultrasound guided imaging by Dr. Thornton, the transfer of your own fat cells into your buttock is artistically placed within the fatty layers of buttock soft tissue and above your buttock muscle.  This ‘two-in-one’ procedure— 360 liposuction plus fat transfer—results in rounder, fuller, and firmer buttocks along with a slimmer waistline, thus restoring your waist-to-hip ratio to more feminine proportions.

What is “360 Lipo Booty Sculpt”?

“360 Lipo Booty Sculpt” is a specialized procedure that Dr. Thornton artistically performs on patients who require 360 full body liposuction and contouring without buttock fat transfer.  Fat grafting is typically unnecessary in patients with well projected and well shaped muscular buttocks.  Therefore, when Dr. Thornton performs a “360 Lipo Booty Sculpt” procedure, delicate and artistic liposuction is performed on the abdomen, flanks, back, upper buttocks and presacral regions to sculpt and highlight the natural buttock anatomy.  No fat is transferred or grafted into the buttock region.  The end result is a highly sculpted waistline, flanks, and abdomen that gives the impression of more curvy buttock proportions.

What is the goal of a Brazilian Butt Lift?

The goal of a Brazilian Butt Lift procedure is to create an improved waist-hip-ratio.  According to many studies, the ideal wait-hip-ratio of an attractive female is approximately 0.7 (70% – 72%).  Therefore, in order to accentuate important anatomical landmarks of the female buttock anatomy, board certified cosmetic surgeons who understand these proportions and anatomical factors are able to restore their clients with a youthful and more attractive feminine figure.

“The iconic term “hourglass” figure or referring to the ideal female body form as having measurements (36-24-36) invokes images of a youthful, attractive, and sexually enticing woman in our modern day society. This depiction of the ideal female body form is based on important biological and hormonal factors. A widely used technique that reliably measures the attractiveness of the female figure is the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). The typical range of the waist-to-hip ratio for healthy, attractive, premenopausal women has been shown to be 0.67 to 0.80, with 0.7 being ideal.” — Dr. Michael Thornton

Is a Brazilian Butt Lift Safe?  How can I get a SAFE Brazilian Butt Lift surgery?

Fatalities have been reported and associated with Brazilian Butt Lift due to pulmonary fat embolism (fat particles traveling to your lungs).  Unfortunately, all of these fatalities were associated with improper surgical technique and improper surgeon training when performing the fat transfer portion of the procedure. It is important to remember your safety is very important to Dr. Michael Thornton!  That is why he performs SAFE Brazilian Butt Lift by adhering to internationally accepted standards in BBL safety.

First, Dr. Thornton selects candidates who are healthy, who can tolerate general anesthesia, and who can tolerate prone (on-stomach) positioning during the procedure. It is also equally important to select individuals who have a body mass index (BMI) at or below 30, as obese patients are not ideal candidates for 360 lipo and buttock fat grafting.

Second, Dr. Thornton performs SAFE BBL protocols and accepted safety standards by injecting the harvested fat only into the fatty compartment of your buttocks and above the large gluteus muscle using real-time ultrasound guided technology.  Using ultrasound, Dr. Thornton is able to visualize the tip of the cannula to make sure it is properly located above the muscle fascia and within a well defined fatty compartment above the muscle fascia.

Lastly, during the injection technique, the harvested fat is reinjected using the MicroAire PAL system in a reverse-flow manner that expands the soft tissue and allows the harvested fat to be redistributed evenly to minimize complications and provide the highest level of BBL safety.

All of these highly skilled maneuvers and safety measures minimize accidental puncture of blood vessels and minimize the risk for pulmonary fat embolism. It is recommended that you seek a board-certified cosmetic or plastic surgeon who performs a significant amount of Brazilian Butt Lift procedures and has knowledge in the current safety measures, including the use of real-time ultrasound guided technology. Dr. Michael Thornton is a double board certified Cosmetic Surgeon and Diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.

What can I expect during my Brazilian Butt Lift consultation with Dr. Thornton?

During your consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations.  Dr. Thornton will complete a thorough medical history and perform a careful examination to determine if you are a candidate for Brazilian Butt Lift.

“The ideal candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift is a patient with a boxy figure and a flat bottom, who is slightly overweight but not obese with a body mass index below 30.  Furthermore, the patient MUST have enough excess fat located throughout their abdomen, flanks, and lower back regions to perform an adequate fat harvest, otherwise, there will not be enough fat to transfer into the buttock region.” — Dr. Michael Thornton

Does your office charge for Brazilain Butt Lift consultations?

Because of the extreme popularity in BBL consultations and the possibility of unexpected cancellations our office charges a $50 (fifty dollar) consultation fee for the Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure.  Payment is made at time of booking with our front office staff.  This fee is nonrefundable and guarantees your spot on our calendar.

Does your surgical practice perform “butt injections”?

The answer is, NO!  Dr. Michael Thornton does NOT perform “butt injections” for safety concerns.  Liquid silicone injections or other “black-market” chemicals injected into your buttocks is considered illegal, immoral, negligent and may cause serious injury or fatality.  Beware of untrained individuals and / or non-surgeons performing or marketing such wrongful techniques.

How much does a Brazilian Butt Lift cost?

On average, Dr. Thornton’s professional surgeon fees for a Brazilian Butt Lift surgery costs between $7000 to $9000 and includes liposuction fat harvesting of the upper and lower abdomen, flanks, lower back folds, and pre-sacral region.  Costs will increase if you desire additional liposuction of your inner or outer thighs, arms, and around the breasts.  Dr. Thornton uses highly specialized and state of the art instruments including MicroAire Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL), VASER instruments, specialized harvesting canisters, and liposuction hand pieces to provide you with optimal results that enhances recovery.  There will be additional costs of operating room / surgery center fees and general anesthesia fees that will be provided to you on your quote at the time of your consultation.

What is the typical recovery process following a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Following your Brazilian Butt Lift surgery you will peacefully recover in the PACU at the surgery center with certified nurses for several hours.  After adequate recovery you will be escorted to your home or place of stay by your care-giver and it is very important to have your adult care-giver stay with you for the first 24 hours following surgery to ensure your safety and provide assistance.  Our office will provide a stage I tight body garment to be worn at all times and you will be provided with several prescriptions:  for pain, for muscle relaxation, for antibiotics, and a prescription for nausea.

It is encouraged not to place direct pressure on your buttocks for approximately 2 weeks so you will be expected to lay on your stomach or sides during resting.  You may shower within 24-48 hours following surgery and you may ambulate carefully in your house.  You will follow up with Dr. Thornton several times following your surgery.  Approximately 80% of the liposuction swelling will resolve in 2 weeks and your final result will become noticeable in approximately 6 months — although results may vary; however, most clients will see dramatic results in several weeks as the swelling and bruising minimize.

What is Body Mass Index (BMI) and how can I determine if I am an optimal candidate for elective cosmetic surgery?

During your consultation, Dr. Thornton will calculate your Body Mass Index or BMI to help determine if you are an optimal candidate for elective cosmetic surgery. Calculating your BMI will help Dr. Thornton identify areas of your health you may need to improve before pursuing elective cosmetic surgery.

An elevated BMI increases surgical risks and complications, including problems with wound healing, infections, and need for revision surgery.  Therefore, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight will dramatically decrease any potential problems that may arise during or after your elective cosmetic surgery.

  • Normal weight: If your BMI falls in the “normal weight” range, you are considered an optimal candidate for elective cosmetic surgery.
  • Overweight:  If your BMI falls in the "overweight" range, you are likely considered a good candidate for elective cosmetic surgery but dietary restrictions and an increase in physical activity may be recommended.
  • Obese: If your BMI falls in the “obese” range or BMI > 30, Dr. Thornton will likely recommend that you reduce your BMI to a healthier category before undergoing elective cosmetic surgery, although individual recommendations are made at the time of consultation.
