Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery

Serving clients near Mansfield, Arlington, Fort Worth & Dallas, Texas

Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center offers mini tummy tuck procedure, a specific form of abdominoplasty, performed on patients who have minimal amounts of skin excess, stretch marks, and abdominal muscle weakness.  The mini tummy tuck is performed on the skin and muscles below the umbilicus (belly button) and the umbilicus is not removed or repositioned.

The mini tummy tuck procedure is less invasive as compared to a full or traditional tummy tuck, since the incision is smaller and there is less skin removal and less muscle tightening.  There are modifications to the mini tummy tuck where an endoscopic camera may be used to assist in the dissection process along with an umbilical float technique but ultimately the goal is to rejuvenate and improve the lower abdomen.

It is important to understand that a mini tummy tuck is performed much less than a traditional or full tummy tuck.  This decision will be made at the time of your consultation with Dr. Michael L. Thornton.

What can I expect during my mini tummy tuck consultation?

During your mini tummy tuck consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations.  Dr. Thornton will complete a thorough medical history and perform a careful examination, including the identification of underlying hernias, location of previous scars, and location of any muscle weakness. Most importantly, he will be able to quickly determine if you are an appropriate candidate to undergo a mini tummy tuck procedure.

How much is a tummy tuck? What does a tummy tuck cost?

Tummy tuck cost can vary depending on a number of factors. But rest assured that all surgical procedures by Dr. Michael Thornton are performed at the highest caliber of attention to detail, quality, safety, and aesthetics. Call to schedule a free tummy tuck consultation today!

Where will my mini tummy tuck surgery take place?

All mini tummy tuck procedures are performed under general anesthesia at Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, a AAAHC certified out-patient surgery center, located in Mansfield, Texas. On average, your procedure will take 3 – 4  hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the case or if additional liposuction or simultaneous breast surgery (mommy makeover) will be performed. Furthermore, all mini tummy tuck procedures are performed using general anesthesia as provided by board-certified anesthesiologists and certified anesthesia providers.  Dr. Thornton does not perform ‘awake’ tummy tuck procedures.

What is Body Mass Index (BMI) and how can I determine if I am an optimal candidate for elective cosmetic surgery?

During your consultation, Dr. Thornton will calculate your Body Mass Index or BMI to help determine if you are an optimal candidate for elective cosmetic surgery. Calculating your BMI will help Dr. Thornton identify areas of your health you may need to improve before pursuing elective cosmetic surgery.

An elevated BMI increases surgical risks and complications, including problems with wound healing, infections, and need for revision surgery.  Therefore, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight will dramatically decrease any potential problems that may arise during or after your elective cosmetic surgery.

  • Normal weight: If your BMI falls in the “normal weight” range, you are considered an optimal candidate for elective cosmetic surgery.
  • Overweight:  If your BMI falls in the "overweight" range, you are likely considered a good candidate for elective cosmetic surgery but dietary restrictions and an increase in physical activity may be recommended.
  • Obese: If your BMI falls in the “obese” range or BMI > 30, Dr. Thornton will likely recommend that you reduce your BMI to a healthier category before undergoing elective cosmetic surgery, although individual recommendations are made at the time of consultation.
