Mini Tummy Tuck

Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center offers the mini tummy tuck procedure, a specific form of abdominoplasty, performed on patients who have minimal amounts of skin excess, stretch marks, and abdominal muscle weakness.  The mini tummy tuck is performed on the skin and muscles below the umbilicus (belly button) and the umbilicus is not removed or repositioned.

The mini tummy tuck procedure is minimally invasive as compared to a full or traditional tummy tuck, since the incision is smaller and there is less skin removal and less muscle tightening.  There are modifications to the mini tummy tuck where an endoscopic camera may be used to assist in the dissection process along with an umbilical float technique but ultimately the goal is to rejuvenate and improve the lower abdomen.

What can I expect during my consultation?

During your consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations.  Although well qualified, we choose not use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians assistants to perform your consultation.  Dr. Thornton will complete a thorough medical history and perform a careful examination, including the identification of underlying hernias, location of previous scars, and location of any muscle weakness. Most importantly, he will be able to quickly determine if you are an appropriate candidate to undergo a mini tummy tuck procedure or an endoscopic assisted mini tummy tuck procedure.

Where will my surgery take place?

All mini tummy tuck procedures are performed under general anesthesia at Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, a AAAHC certified out-patient surgery center, located in Mansfield, Texas. On average, your procedure will take 3 – 4  hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the case or if additional liposuction or simultaneous breast surgery (mommy makeover) will be performed. Furthermore, all mini tummy tuck procedures are performed using general anesthesia as provided by board-certified anesthesiologists and certified anesthesia providers.  Dr. Thornton does not perform or believe in performing ‘awake’ tummy tuck procedures.
