Botox Injections – What Can I Expect?
First, what is Botox?
Botox Cosmetic is a popular name brand for the injectable medication, botulinum toxin. In facial aesthetics, it is used in small doses to temporarily paralyze some of the facial muscles in order to achieve a smoother and less wrinkled appearance. Often, wrinkles of the face are due to over-use of facial expressions (i.e. raising the eyebrows and frowning or squinting). Therefore, by temporarily softening these facial expressions, the wrinkles are diminished.
What happens after I’m done with my Botox appointment?
After your Botox treatment, you are cleared to go about your normal day, with exception to rigorous exercising, facial massaging, extreme heat exposure, and alcohol consumption for 24 hours. We also recommend you remain upright for at least 6 hours after your injection to prevent the Botox from migrating to areas we do not intend to treat.
When should I get Botox again?
If this was your first Botox injection, we recommend a follow-up visit around 2-weeks in order to make touch-ups as needed. After your first treatment, we recommend repeat treatments at least every 3 – 4 months to achieve your best results.
