Breast Lift – Mastopexy
Serving clients near Mansfield, Arlington, Fort Worth & Dallas, Texas
Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center provides breast lift or mastopexy to to clients from Mansfield, Arlington, Grand Prairie, Dallas, Fort Worth and the greater DFW Metroplex. A breast lift repositions or “lifts” sagging breasts due to the effects of pregnancy, breast-feeding, or weight loss. Flaccid and loose breast skin with loss of elasticity is unable to support the weight of the breast and this condition is termed breast ptosis and can be classified as either first-degree, second-degree, third-degree, or pseudoptosis. The degree of breast ptosis is measured with respect to your nipple as it relates to your bottom breast crease.
Are you a breast lift candidate?
Most women coming into the office have obvious breast ptosis and are excellent candidates for a breast lift, while other clients will need a formal consultation to make the decision collectively with Dr. Michael Thornton, as sometimes the decision is not as straightforward.
Incisions for a breast lift are placed around the dark skin of your areola and/or along the underside breast crease thus creating an “anchor incision” or known as a Wise Pattern. However, Dr. Michael Thornton provides every effort to minimize the size of your scars and to make them as inconspicuous as possible using natural creases and folds. During the breast lift procedure the nipple-areola complex is elevated to a new elevated or higher chest position and the excess skin is removed and tightened, thus restoring your breasts to a more youthful appearance, with more fullness and projection.
Many of our patients also choose to have a combination procedure consisting of breast lift with breast augmentation in order to achieve the most desirable effect during a single operation.
What are the expectations during my breast lift consultation?
During your breast lift consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations regarding a breast lift. Although well qualified, we choose not use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians assistants to perform your consultation. Dr. Thornton will take measurements of various key areas of your breasts and demonstrate scar placement and proposed elevation of your new nipple and areola.
Where will my breast lift surgery take place?
All breast augmentation, mastopexy, breast reduction and breast revision procedures are performed under general anesthesia at Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, a AAAHC certified out-patient surgery center, located in Mansfield, Texas. On average, a breast lift procedure with or without breast augmentation will take 4 to 5 hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the procedure and other client dependent personal circumstances. Furthermore, all breast lift procedures are performed using general anesthesia as provided by board-certified anesthesiologists and certified anesthesia providers.
What is my expected breast lift recovery?
Following your breast lift procedure, you will recover at the surgery center until you are safe to be discharged and go home with an appropriate care giver. You will be provided with post operative instructions, narcotic pain medication, muscle relaxation medication, antibiotics, and nausea medication. You may take a shower the next morning. Dr. Thornton will monitor your progress weekly to monthly for the first 6 months and at 12 months. Surgery photographs will be taken at 3 – 4 months as this is the average time where you will begin to notice the most optimal appearance. Results will vary from one patient to the other and patients are expected to have realistic expectations following breast lift.
