Breast Implant Revision
Serving clients near Mansfield, Arlington, Fort Worth & Dallas, Texas
Dr. Michael Thornton performs breast implant revision surgery to correct or repair breast implant related complications, breast implant malposition, capsule contraction, saline or silicone breast implant rupture, breast implant exchange and complete breast implant removal surgery.
Are you a candidate for breast implant revision surgery?
Various saline and silicone breast implant related complications may occur and most problems are minor and do not require revision surgery. However, some patients may require breast implant revision surgery if symptoms such as pain, discomfort, unsightly appearance, hardening, or deflation occur.
If your implants are 10 years old or more, there is no reason to remove or replace your breast implants unless you are experiencing one of the above listed symptoms. Our office is asked this question on a regular basis and this is a very confusing topic as most patients follow incorrect guidelines from friends, relatives, the internet or uninformed physicians.
Basically, there is no need to replace your breast implants unless you have a problem. Breast implants do not have a “time limit” or “expiration date”. Most well trained, ethical and board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeons will agree. On the contrary, cosmetic plastic surgeons who advertise, promote sales, or draw attention to the contrary of this belief are using unethical, fear-mongering tactics. Beware.

During your breast implant revision surgery consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations. Dr. Thornton will take measurements of various key areas of your breasts and demonstrate scar placement and the proposed plan for revision surgery.
Where will my breast implant revision surgery take place?
All breast augmentation, mastopexy, breast reduction and breast revision procedures are performed under general anesthesia at Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, a AAAHC certified out-patient surgery center, located in Mansfield, Texas. On average, a breast implant revision surgery procedure will take several hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the procedure and other client dependent personal circumstances. What is my expected breast implant revision recovery?
Following your breast revision surgery, you will recover at the surgery center until you are safe to be discharged and go home with an appropriate care giver. You will be provided with post operative instructions, narcotic pain medication, muscle relaxation medication, antibiotics, and nausea medication. You may take a shower the next morning. Dr. Thornton will monitor your progress weekly to monthly for the first 6 months and at 12 months. Surgery photographs will be taken at 3 – 4 months as this is the average time where you will begin to notice the most optimal appearance. Results will vary from one patient to the other and patients are expected to have realistic expectations following breast revision surgery.
