Fractional Co2 & Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing
Mansfield – Arlington – Fort Worth – Dallas
Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center offers choices in laser skin resurfacing, including Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing and Erbium MicroLaser Peel in order to reduce or improve smoker lines, wrinkles, skin discoloration, and acne scars.
Similar to the Fraxel, using advanced fractional ablative technology, Dr. Thornton uses the Ellman Matrix Fractional CO2 and Erbium Yag Laser (Er:Yag 2940 nm) platforms to provide deep fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing and superficial Erbium skin resurfacing. These combined laser technologies are ideal for the treatment of brown spots, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and poor skin texture.
What is the Erbium MicroLaser Peel?
The Erbium laser system is specifically designed to rejuvenate the superficial layers of skin with reduced patient discomfort due to Erbium’s higher affinity for water as compared to CO2 laser, thus patients who have had Erbium laser recover twice as quickly as those having CO2 laser resurfacing. The Erbium laser precisely ablates the superficial skin without exposing the underlying dermis, thus allowing Dr. Thornton to safely treat dark-skin clients and sensitive areas, like the neck and hands with less degree of scarring or injury.
The Erbium MicroLaser Peel is a superficial skin resurfacing treatment that peels approximately 20-50 microns deep to remove the full epidermis. Simply think of it as — Erbium MicroLaser Peel is deeper than a typical microdermabrasion but not as deep as CO2 fractional laser treatments.
How do I know if I am a candidate for either CO2 laser or Erbium laser skin resurfacing?
If your skin is showing signs of aging or sun damage with wrinkles, “smoker lines”, chicken pox scars, acne scars, blotchy skin, freckles, or brown spots then you may be considered a candidate for either fractional CO2 or Erbium laser skin resurfacing. One key advantage for the use of Erbium laser system is that it can be safely used on darker skin types (African-American, Asia, Latino).
During your consultation, Dr. Thornton will personally discuss your laser resurfacing options and determine if your are an acceptable candidate for CO2, Erbium, or both. Although well qualified, we choose not use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians assistants to perform your consultation.
The Ellman Fractional CO2 and Erbium laser platforms are designed in such a way that Dr. Thornton has precise control over the intensity and depth of the treatment, thus reducing tissue injury and speeding the healing process.
What do laser treatments feel like?
Treatment sensations vary from person to person. During the procedure, tiny pulses of laser energy are delivered to the skin and you may experience a warm sharp feeling. However, Dr. Thornton reduces your discomfort by applying topical anesthesia cream, performing local nerve blocks, or prescribing oral sedation medication prior to the procedure.
How many laser treatments are required?
Results vary with each patient and most patients are satisfied following a single treatment, but in some cases a series of treatments may be required to achieve desired results. Repeat treatments are usually spaced between 6-8 weeks.
How long do the results last?
This varies from person to person. However, if you take steps to protect your freshly rejuvenated skin, including the use of sunscreen, facial cleansers and prescription skin care, your results may last several years.
