Eyelid Lift Blepharoplasty
Serving clients near Mansfield, Arlington, Fort Worth & Dallas, Texas
Eyelid lift or blepharoplasty is a very popular facial plastic procedure performed by Michael L. Thornton at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center to remove excess skin from your upper eyelids (upper lid blepharoplasty) and / or by removing fat bulges from your lower eyelids (lower lid blepharoplasty). In addition, there are occasions where you may have both an upper and lower blepharoplasty at the same time. Most of our clients who desire eyelid lift surgery or blepharoplasty do so to reduce a “tired look” or “droopy eyelids”.
An upper blepharoplasty is a procedure that predominately removes the excess skin from the upper eyelid and the incision is carefully placed into the natural eyelid crease. Sometimes, a small strip of eyelid muscle / or orbital fat is removed to contour the upper eyelid. On the contrary, a lower blepharoplasty predominately removes fat, not skin, from areas of puffiness. However, at times, a small strip of skin is removed from the lower eyelid just below the lashes. Through the use of advanced techniques, Dr. Thornton performs scarless lower eyelid blepharoplasty or transconjunctival blepharoplasty to minimize scars and eyelid complications. In addition, he can perform combined fractional Co2 laser resurfacing to the lower orbital skin, along with a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, to smooth and tighten the lower orbital skin. This is a popular technique among oculoplastic surgeon colleagues.
Complete periorbital rejuvenation can be performed by combining both upper and lower blepharoplasty along with fractional Co2 laser skin resurfacing and/or fat grafting to the lower orbit regions to tighten the lower eyelid skin, smooth out fine wrinkles, and eliminate dark circles. Fat transfer and grafting to the lower orbital rims is a popular procedure performed by Dr. Thornton to improve a tear trough deformity by transferring fat to the lid-cheek junction, nasal labial folds, zygomatic region (cheek bone), and other areas of the mid face to improve overall volume.
What can I expect during my blepharoplasty consultation?
During your blepharoplasty consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations. Although well qualified, we choose not use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians assistants to perform your consultation. Dr. Thornton will complete a thorough medical history and perform a careful examination, including the identification of eyelid skin excess and orbital fat pad herniation.
Where will my blepharoplasty surgery take place?
Upper blepharoplasty surgery is typically performed in our private procedure room as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia and oral sedation. However, lower blepharoplasty will require additional anesthesia therefore your surgery will be performed at Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, a AAAHC certified out-patient surgery center, located in Mansfield, Texas. Recovery is usually complete within 5 to 7 days, though mild swelling may last 7-10 days.
