Facial Fat Transfer

Serving clients near Mansfield, Arlington, Fort Worth & Dallas, Texas

Facial fat transfer or dermal fat grafting is a minimally invasive procedure that naturally restores facial volume around your orbital bones, cheeks, and mid-face, lips or other facial areas by simply removing fat cells from one area of your body and transplanting into another.  Fat transfer is a natural alternative to other more commonly used collagen fillers and dermal filler injectables.  We also perform fat transfer to the back of your hands for hand rejuvenation.

Your fat is removed with a small liposuction cannula from common donor sites such as your abdomen, flanks, or thighs. Once harvested, your fat is processed to remove excess fluids and then injected and sculpted into the desired recipient sites. The most common areas of the face to receive fat transfer are the areas around the lower eye socket (tear trough deformity), cheeks, lips, and wrinkles and folds around your nose and mouth, known as the nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

What can I expect during my facial fat transfer consultation?

During your facial fat transfer consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael L. Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations.  Dr. Thornton will complete a thorough medical history and perform a careful examination of your face to discuss your goals for facial fat transfer.

Where will my facial fat transfer surgery take place?

Facial fat transfer surgery is performed in our private operating room as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia and oral sedation.  Recovery is usually complete within 5 to 7 days, though mild swelling may last 7-10 days.  However, if more complex facial plastic surgery procedures are simultaneously performed, your surgery may be performed at Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, a AAAHC certified out-patient surgery center, located in Mansfield, Texas.
